Registering your profile on the Big Give will allow you to take advantage of the many benefits and opportunities available to our charities. To find out more about what we can do for you, click here.

Registration is free and simple. Please read our step-by-step guide below which will help you to create your Big Give profile.

1) Profile Registration

To register your profile, you will need to know what country your organisation is registered in and your registration number (i.e. your charity number).

If you are not registered with either the English or Scottish Charity Commission, but have tax exempt status for charitable purposes granted by the HMRC, you will have to select “exempt.” You will then be contacted by a member of the Big Give Team who will ask you to provide your exempt number and a letter from the HMRC as evidence of this. If you do not have this available, please contact the HMRC and they will be able to provide you with this letter.

During the registration process, you will be asked to provide details of your mission statement and aims as well as more general information about your organisation’s staffing structure, trustees and volunteers. You will also have to upload a logo, so it may be an idea to have this ready in JPEG format to add to your profile.

Once you have finished filling out your profile form, you will be sent an email with an activation code and instructions as to how you may activate your account.

Please note that you will have to fill out the whole of the profile form before your profile will be saved by the Big Give. If you feel that you may not have time to finish it all before exiting, please copy and paste your responses to the questions into a Word document or similar, so that you have a record of them when you come back to it another time.

2) Registering your bank details

Approximately a week after registering your profile with the Big Give, you will be issued with a ‘donate’ button. This leads to your donation form through which donors can make online donations to your Big Give profile. However, before you can receive these funds you will have to register your bank details with Charity Checkout, our payments processor.

To register your bank details please login to your Big Give Account, click the ‘Your bank details status’ tab and follow the instructions.

Charity Checkout is an HMRC approved payment processing agency. They will payout any donations made to your organisation through the Big Give by BACS transfer once a month. With your permission, they will also claim the Gift Aid on any eligible donations on your behalf which will be paid out directly by HMRC 8-10 weeks after the payout date of the original donation. All payments of donations made to your organisation via the Big Give will be attributed to Charity Checkout on your bank statements.

Please note that there is a 4% administration fee on all gross donations (donation amount + Gift Aid) made via theBigGive.org.uk. Read more about our fees here.

3) Uploading a project

It is a good idea to upload each individual project that you are raising funds for onto your Big Give profile. This will allow donors to choose how they would like their money to be used and will increase your organisation’s visibility on the Big Give. The searchbox on the Big Give’s homepage is automatically set to search for projects, so if you don’t choose to upload a project, donors will have to change the default setting on the searchbox to search for your charity.

To upload a project, please login to your Big Give Account and then click on “upload a project” from the “Getting Started” menu.

The project form was designed in consultation with a number of leading grant-making organisations. It aims to answer all the questions that a donor may have regarding your project. The information that you will need to have available to fill out your project form includes:

You will be able to save your project as you go along and your project will not be uploaded on to the site until you have submitted it upon completing the final page of the form. Once your project has been submitted, you may still edit its details at any point through your account area. You will also have an option to upload quotes, images and videos onto your project pages.
