The Big Give Philippines Emergency Appeal

The Big Give Philippines Emergency Match Fund Appeal raised over £320,000 to help those most affected by the destruction left in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, wreaked devastation in the Philippines. It killed an estimated 10,000 people and thousands more are now still fighting a daily battle for survival.

At 11am, Tuesday 12th November, the Big Give launched an emergency matched fund to double donations to charities running an emergency appeal. The public response was fantastic and the matching funds were exhausted quickly, raising over £320,000 for the 15 participating charities, which were as follows:

  • British Red Cross
  • CAFOD
  • CARE International UK
  • Christian Aid
  • Disasters Emergency Committee
  • Handicap International
  • International Rescue Committee UK
  • MapAction
  • Medair UK
  • Oxfam
  • Plan UK
  • Save the Children
  • Shelterbox
  • Worldwaterworks Ltd
  • World Vision

The incredible response to the Philippines Appeal came off the back of the Syria Emergency Fund that the Big Give ran in April 2013.

Escalating violence in Syria resulted in millions of people being forced to leave their homes. To help support those most in need, the Big Give launched an emergency matched fund and raised over £140,000. The appeal helped raise money for 11 charities working in Syria, including the Disasters Emergency Committee, Oxfam and Medair UK.
