The Climate Group

Mission Statement

Our mission is to catalyse business and government leadership on climate change solutions in order to put the world on track for a low carbon economy. We are dedicated to accelerating the international uptake of corporate and government best practice in carbon emissions reduction.

The Climate Group is the world’s only international NGO focused exclusively on the solutions to climate change. The driving force behind The Climate Group is to form a powerful network of leaders to tip the business and policy case in favour of climate change measures by identifying and recruiting the 1000 most influential leaders worldwide. Our strategy for achieving our ambitious mission is to partner with these most influential leaders, including those from 150 top businesses and governments, helping them to a leadership position on climate change, facilitating stronger collaboration on market mechanisms and policy development, and communicating successes with a particular focus on the links between reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved financial and economic performance.

We have no time to lose. The current scientific consensus suggests that in order to contain climate change, the world will need to achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by mid-century, involving cuts of the order of 80 to 90% in developed countries compared to present day emissions levels. Given the magnitude of this challenge, The Climate Group’s objectives over the next three to five years are less focused on achieving actual short-term cuts in emissions (although these are important) and more on building the framework of ambitious targets, policies, strategies, mechanisms and political willpower that will enable the required rate of transformation in world energy systems between 2010 and 2050.
