Newham Music Trust primarily provides high-level music tuition to over 10,000 pupils in one of Britain's most deprived areas through individual, group and whole class settings.
We are also the supporting charity for a number of projects working in Newham and the surrounding areas.
At present we have two projects, one working with mentally and physically disabled children and adults through music therapy; the other providing real solutions to antisocial behavior and youth crime. In Newham this issue is very close to home with a number of our students being close friends with victims of knife and gun crime. We work with the young at risk of offending, providing them with new skills in the music industry and an opportunity to explore their emotional difficulties through music.
