New London Orchestra
Mission Statement
The New London Orchestra’s mission is to enable people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about, create and enjoy a wide range of music, particularly those with the little or no access. Through family-friendly concerts in unusual settings and participatory projects with schools and local communities the Orchestra aims to:
• Develop people’s creativity, skills and aspirations;
• Strengthen community spirit and cohesion and;
• Build and sustain new audiences for music.
Since the Orchestra was founded in 1988 it has enabled thousands of young people and adults, including those with disabilities, mental health problems and learning difficulties, to benefit from projects that have developed their skills and confidence, helped them to express their feelings about their communities and discover and enjoy new music. The Orchestra has also given over 40 young and emerging musicians valuable performance experience through our Young Performers Concert Series, which we run in partnership with the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
