North of Tyne Search & Rescue Team

Mission Statement

The North of Tyne Search and Rescue Team (NOTS&RT) is an emergency service organisation made up of volunteers. The Team provides a valuable community service in life saving search and rescue, 24 hours of the day, 365 days a year in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear and covers an area of 2500 square miles. We work under the remit of Northumbria Police and are part of the North East Search and Rescue Association and may be called to support rescue teams outside of our usual area.

The running costs of the Team are between £12,000 - £15,000 per annum. The Team is self supporting through fundraising and charitable donations and members pay for their own travel costs to call-outs and training, as well as providing much of their own personal safety equipment. We are from a diverse range of backgrounds and are aged between 22 to 62 years. Our main focus is providing the police with a valuable service in the search and/or rescue of missing persons ranging from lost walkers, despondents and vulnerable people to specialist rescues for outdoor pursuit casualties. We occasionally offer safety/rescue cover to large events such as the Windy Gyle Fell race, The Kielder Challenge and various mountain bike races.
