In Kind Direct
Mission Statement
In Kind Direct, one of The Prince's Charities, improves the lives of millions of people in need by re-distributing surplus new goods, donated by companies, to UK charities and voluntary groups, of all types and sizes. This work also has a practical environmental impact by diverting goods that may otherwise go to landfill.
Everyday in the UK a charity will be struggling to raise sufficient funds to purchase essential items to sustain their operations or give to the people they help. At the same time a UK manufacturer or retailer will be sending the same items to landfill, either deemed as surplus to requirement or not fit to retail because of a cosmetic flaw in the product or packaging. In Kind Direct matches surplus to need. It might be games software, arts and crafts materials and sporting goods for youth groups in deprived areas, cleaning supplies, educational material and tools for an employment training organisation; toiletries, bedding, toys, nappies, toilet rolls and books for a women’s shelter; or kettles, toasters and china for a charity housing refugees.
Since 1997 we have re-distributed nearly £100 million worth of surplus products from 850 companies. More than 7,700 charities have benefited, touching the lives over a million disadvantaged people every year. Our charity partners operate in all sectors, including social welfare, homelessness and housing, community support and initiatives education and training, disability and family, children and youth projects.
