BAAF (British Association for Adoption & Fostering)

Mission Statement

BAAF is a registered charity supporting those who work with and care for children in care. There are currently around 80,000 children in care in the UK, over 4,000 in need of a new permanent family. Some 50% have experienced neglect or some form of abuse, and all will have suffered significant trauma. Too many do not have the opportunity to be part of a stable, loving family and subsequently they face an uncertain future. They live daily with the fear of abandonment or the memories of their neglectful or abusive birth family.

BAAF’s aims are to:
• Find permanent, stable and loving families for children in care;
• Ensure that children in care are listened to and respected, and that their needs are met;
• Promote and develop the highest standards in adoption and fostering;
• Increase understanding of adoption, fostering, and the life-long needs of children separated from birth families;
• Influence policy makers and legislators to elicit real change for children and young people.
