Hillside Rural Activities Park
Mission Statement
The Park was officially opened on Sunday 22nd June 2008 by Mr Hugh Morgan Williams OBE.
We have recently produced a DVD film to illustrate our achievements to date and demonstrate our track record of successful investment of grants/donations. To view the film please visit our website or contact us for a copy. www.hrap.co.uk
Our objective is to provide a permanent and sustainable home to a number of community groups in the rural area of North Yorkshire in which we are located. Our project was conceived after a group comprising North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Forum for Voluntary Organisations, Richmondshire District Council, Rydale District Council, Yorkshire Forward and Yorkshire Rural Community Fund applied the Index of Local Deprivation (ILD) 2000 to establish the areas of great need. This revealed that the Hillside Ward area suffers from extreme problems of geographical access to services and that on this count, it was in the 2% most deprived wards in the country.
Hillside Rural Activities Park was formed by volunteers from the community and the local football, cricket and tennis clubs, the local agricultural show in partnership with the local scout group.
In the time since we formed the Company Limited by Guarantee and registered as a Charity (2005) we have made strong progress towards our objectives. We have
• acquired a 28 acre site
• installed a drainage system suitable for recreational use
• constructed a football pitch to FA guidelines
• constructed a cricket square to ECB guidelines
• constructed three all weather tennis courts to LTA guidelines
• started construction of a children’s playground
• constructed an access road, car park and a network of public footpaths linking the site to the local villages and school
• produced a design for and secured planning permission for a scout and community sports hall including changing rooms and groundsman store for the sports clubs
We have strong links with the local community and work closely with the parish councils, primary school, nursery, village halls and local people.
