The UKFAI made their first personal ask during the initial private donation period to an existing major donor. They were delighted to take part in the challenge, stating, "if it will unlock £8,000 of additional funding then so much the better".
Personal asks were then made of all trustees and a number of targeted donors and prospects. Many trustees of the UKFIA had given before, but a number decided to make their first ever donation and one became financially involved again after two years without donating.
Every trustee approached was thrilled to be given the opportunity to double the value of their donation with one board member making a second substantial donation, on top of her regular gift, because its value would be doubled.
The UKFIA were able to double the average amount donated by participating in the 2009 challenge and to obtain donations from trustees who would not otherwise have given. The challenge also proved to be a useful tool to re-engage with previous donors.
The UKFIA were able to obtain nearly the full amount of sponsor funding possible due to their reasonable assessment of how much they would be able to raise in each fundraising period.
